On the afternoon of 8 November 2021, a firearms incident occurred at a domestic dwelling at Corrafrin, Ballybofey, County Donegal, during which a stand-off or hostage situation developed with one man believed to be armed with a gun. Neighbours in the Knock area were asked to leave their homes for a period. A man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and detained at Letterkenny Garda Station. Seamus McMcMenamin, 52, appeared at Letterkenny District Court on 13 November 2021, where he was charged under Section 8 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, with discharging a firearm, being reckless as to whether any person was injured. The case was adjourned by Judge Raymond Finnegan until 6 December 2021.
