  • Aggravated burglary at Ballintubber shop under investigation Burglary; assault · Co. Roscommon

At least four masked men, possibly up to six, broke into the home and adjoining shop of 94-year-old Una Farrell in Ballintubber, Co. Roscommon, in the early hours of 22 August 2022. They held her and her two sons, John and Séamus, both in their 60s, hostage in a room, threatened them with screwdrivers, tied their legs together, and ransacked the premises for about an hour before stealing a small sum of cash, jewellery, and cigarettes. One son suffered minor rib injuries after being thrown to the ground, but no victim required medical attention. No arrests have been made, and Gardaí in Castlerea are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage from the Ashpark area between 10.30pm on 21 August and 12.30am on 22 August.
