Cameron Blair, a 20-year-old man and second-year chemical engineering student at Cork Institute of Technology, was stabbed in the neck at a house party on Bandon Road in Cork City on 16 January 2020. A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty to murder at the Central Criminal Court in March 2020 and was sentenced to life detention with a review after 13 years. The Court of Appeal dismissed his sentence appeal in December 2023 and ruled in January 2024 that he could be named as an adult, but the Supreme Court overturned that decision in March 2025, upholding his lifelong anonymity. The Blair family has since been told to prepare for the possibility of the killer's release, with a fresh appeal against the sentence expected.
