On Monday 17 February 2025, Revenue officers and gardaí seized 10.19kg of 4-methyl methcathinone HCl (M-Cat), with an estimated value of approximately €500,000 subject to analysis, in Newbridge, Co Kildare, during an intelligence-led joint operation. An 18-year-old man, named by Kildare Now as Scott Ennis, was arrested that day and charged under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, which is an allegation. On 18 February 2025 he appeared before Naas District Court, made no reply when charged, and was granted bail on a €2,000 cash bond with conditions and free legal aid. The case was adjourned to September 18, and the investigation is ongoing.
