latest first- Gardaí investigating pins found in Halloween sweets in Co Donegal Contamination of food (pins/needles in children's sweets) · Co. Donegal
On 31 October 2026, small metal pins were found in Halloween sweets collected by children during trick-or-treating in the Ballybofey and Stranorlar areas of Co Donegal. Savannah McDaid, from Stranorlar, discovered pins inside four sweets collected by her three-year-old son, while Philippa Falls, from Ballybofey, found a long pin in a bar collected by her son Joshua. The pins appeared to have been carefully pierced through the wrapping paper into the bars. Both parents shared the findings on social media, and Gardaí are investigating with enquiries ongoing.
