Nathan Grant McNulty, a 27-year-old man from Carrickmines, Co. Dublin, pleaded guilty to the rape and coercive control of Sarah Ryan at the Central Criminal Court. The court heard that McNulty raped Ryan in March 2019 and subjected her to years of physical and controlling abuse during their relationship, which began in 2018 and ended in March 2022. On 19 December 2025, the judge sentenced McNulty to nine years' imprisonment with the final 12 months suspended on strict conditions, including a lifetime no-contact order with the victim. Ryan, who waived her right to anonymity, said she was speaking out to turn her pain into purpose.
