latest first- Kildare woman convicted in absence of starving cat to death Animal neglect (starvation of a cat) · Co. Kildare
Sarah Jane Morrissey of Leixlip, Co Kildare, was convicted in her absence at Dublin District Court of animal neglect under the Animal Health and Welfare Act after an 18-month-old cat was found emaciated and on the verge of death during an ISPCA visit. The cat, which weighed 1.8kg compared to an average of 4kg, was rushed to a vet where it was treated for four hours before being euthanised. Judge Anthony Halpin described it as the worst animal neglect case he had seen and imposed a lifetime ban on Morrissey owning an animal. A bench warrant was issued to have her arrested and brought to court for sentencing.
