  Sandra Hennessy, a 63-year-old woman, pleaded guilty at Dungarvan District Court to causing unnecessary suffering to 79 dogs kept at her former address at Dyrick, Ballinamult, Co Waterford, between July 2024 and February 2025. An animal welfare inspector first visited on 23 July 2024, and about 34 dogs were removed on 30 July 2025 and 21 more on 29 August 2025. She pleaded guilty to 22 summonses under the Animal Welfare Act. The court's latest outcome, reported on 6 December 2025, was a four-month sentence on each summons, to run concurrently and suspended for one year, a lifetime ban on keeping animals, and removal of the ten dogs at her current property. The defence said she cannot currently pay ISPCA costs of €5,582.
