  • Man pleads guilty to arson at five Cork city centre stores Arson · Co. Cork

    Five retail stores in Cork city centre, including TK Maxx, Lifestyle Sports, Superdry, Next and Boots, were targeted in an arson attack on the evening of 25 February 2024, with clothing, building structure, shelving, perfumes, cosmetics and toiletries damaged by fire. Samuel Nunes Neto, a 24-year-old man of no fixed abode, was charged with five counts of causing criminal damage by fire and made full admissions in custody at Bridewell Garda Station, corroborated by CCTV footage. He first appeared before Cork District Court on 28 February 2024, where Judge Mary Dorgan ordered a psychiatric assessment and remanded him in custody. The DPP directed trial on indictment, and Nunes Neto subsequently entered signed guilty pleas to all five counts. He is due to be sentenced on 29 October 2024 at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
