Samir Parker, a 28-year-old man from Rinn Lia, Ballybrit, was pulled over on Mill Street in Galway city at 11:40pm on 25 May 2020 while disqualified from driving. He pleaded guilty by video-link to driving without a valid licence or insurance, and a public order charge for threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour was withdrawn on the plea. At Galway District Court, Judge Fahy sentenced him to four months in prison to be served after his current eight-month sentence, one month concurrent for driving without a licence, and a ten-year driving disqualification. The court heard he had 69 previous convictions, 15 of which were for driving without insurance, and had received a 10-year disqualification at Limerick City Circuit Court a few months earlier.
