Sam Kavanagh (30), a former secondary school music teacher, was arrested after US authorities alerted gardaí to child abuse material in Dropbox folders linked to him. Gardaí searched a property at Shannon Banks, Corbally under a search warrant on 17 December 2021 and seized a laptop and hard drive, and Kavanagh was arrested on 14 December 2022. He appeared before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court on 31 October 2024 on a signed guilty plea to two counts of possessing child abuse material between September and December 2021. On 11 December 2024 Judge Colin Daly sentenced him to 16 months on each count, to run concurrently and backdated to 31 October 2024, and placed him on the sex offenders register for ten years.
