Sadullah Ovacikli, a 44-year-old Turkish man with no fixed address in Ireland, was stopped after arriving at Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport on 11 September 2024 and arrested over alleged immigration offences. He was charged with two offences, and on 12 September Dublin District Court remanded him in custody after the garda objected to bail. He told the court that he had worked as a prosecutor for the Turkish government and had left Turkey after a sentence linked to the 2016 coup attempt. At a third hearing, reported on 2 October 2024, he pleaded guilty to both offences, and the judge applied the Probation of Offenders Act, so no criminal record or sentence was imposed.
