  On 9 August 2026, officers from the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit searched a residential property at Island Road, Limerick City, as part of Operation Tara and seized a 9mm Glock semi-automatic pistol, 46 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and over 100 grams of suspected diamorphine with an estimated street value of €21,700. Ryan Phillips, an 18-year-old man from Abbeyview, Island Road, Limerick, was arrested and detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. He was subsequently charged with possession of the firearm, possession of the ammunition, and possession of diamorphine for sale or supply and simple possession. On 12 August 2026, Judge Catherine Ryan at Limerick District Court granted Phillips bail despite objections from Gardaí, with strict conditions including an 11pm curfew and no access to electronic devices. He was remanded to appear before Limerick District Court on 22 October 2026 for DPP directions.
