On 12 May 2019 a man was punched on Thomas Street in Limerick city, outside The Still House bar, and was knocked unconscious with a broken left jaw that required surgery. The accused, Ryan Downes, aged 31, is known to the victim through a family connection, and the incident was described as fuelled by alcohol. Downes pleaded guilty to assault causing harm, reported on 8 November 2023, and Judge Dermot Sheehan adjourned the case until March. The latest development is that the adjournment gives Downes time to pay €5,000 in compensation to the victim.
