• Scout leader jailed for indecent assault of five boys in Clare Indecent assault of children · Co. Clare

Jim Harmon, an 80-year-old former scout leader, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of indecent assault against five boys between 1976 and 1981 at locations in Clare and Limerick. One victim, Ruairi Hickey, a 54-year-old man, said Harmon molested him when he was nine or 10 on a scouting trip to Holy Island. The Garda investigation, which began in 2019, involved 80 witness statements, and the DPP had recommended no prosecution over complaints in 2014 and 2016. Harmon was sentenced at Ennis Circuit Court in May 2024 to six years and eight months in prison.
