Roy Dunican, a 28-year-old man from Kilcormac, Offaly, was sentenced at Tullamore District Court on June 8, 2022, for three counts of failure to control his dogs. His German Shepherd and Husky were found roaming on three separate occasions in December 2000, January 2021, and February 2021. Judge Miriam Walsh fined him €200 for the first two offences and imposed a two-month suspended sentence, suspended for 12 months, for the third. The dogs have since been put down by the dog warden.

On 20 January 2021, gardaí called to the home of Roy Dunican, 28, at Mooney Terrace, Kilcormac, Offaly, to arrest and charge him on directions from the DPP. A struggle ensued between Dunican and Det Garda Fergus Hogan, during which Hogan landed on the pavement hitting his left shoulder and Dunican had to be pepper sprayed. Dunican pleaded guilty at Tullamore District Court, where his defence raised the absence of a warrant and his mental health issues. Judge Catherine Staines sentenced him to 240 hours community service in lieu of 10 months in prison in March 2022.
