    Brendan Courtney, a man in his 50s, was assaulted at Usher's Quay in Dublin city centre on 27 February 2025 when Ross Deegan, a 22-year-old man, and a co-accused punched and kicked him after he was beckoned to a car stopped at traffic lights. Courtney sustained a concussion and a fracture of his eye socket. Deegan voluntarily contacted gardaí on 5 March 2025 and later pleaded guilty to assault causing harm in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The case was adjourned to 9 December 2026 for sentencing, with the court ordering a community service assessment and a random urine test.
