    On 15 August 2022, a two-car collision occurred on the N17 at Cloonturk, Kilkelly, Co. Mayo, when Joan Cassidy, 62, was pulling out of the Applegreen filling station and crossed the path of Rosaleen Murphy, 36, who was travelling south. Cassidy's 91-year-old mother Kitty Doherty died the following day from her injuries, while Murphy suffered a serious leg injury. Cassidy pleaded guilty to careless driving causing serious harm to Murphy. In March 2024, she was sentenced at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court to an eight-month suspended sentence for 12 months, with no driving disqualification imposed.
