latest first- Man jailed for arson at Letterkenny underground car park Arson · Co. Donegal
Rory O'Hara set a car alight in an underground car park to the rear of Riverside Apartments in Letterkenny on November 29, 2018, causing €44,996 in damage and forcing tenants to evacuate nearby apartments. CCTV footage showed a man entering the car park at 10:46pm and leaving at 10:52pm, and O'Hara used a cigarette lighter to ignite a car seat. He pleaded guilty to a charge of arson at Letterkenny Circuit Court, where Judge John Aylmer sentenced him to five years' imprisonment with the final 18 months suspended. The judge noted that a headline sentence of seven years before mitigation was appropriate and that O'Hara appears to suffer from an anxiety disorder, resorting to the abuse of drugs and alcohol.
