latest first- Garda awarded €8,000 in Dublin pub assault case Assault · Co. Dublin
A garda from Lucan Garda Station had his nose broken by a colleague during a night out in Ryan's Bar on Lower Camden Street, Dublin, on 28 March 2022. Denis Lordan said Ronan O'Shaughnessy punched him unprovoked, while O'Shaughnessy said he lashed out in self-defence after Lordan confronted him. Lordan sued O'Shaughnessy for €60,000 in damages in the Circuit Civil Court. In January 2025 the judge awarded just over €13,000 but reduced it to €8,000 on the basis that Lordan was 40% to blame, plus District Court costs against O'Shaughnessy.
