  Ronan Madden, a 36-year-old man, is accused of trying to bribe a professional League of Ireland football player to intentionally receive a red card during a match. The incident allegedly took place at Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana, Co Donegal, on 17 February 2024. Madden is charged with corruptly offering the player €40,000 under section 5 of the Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Act 2018. On 15 October 2025 he appeared before Blanchardstown District Court in Dublin and was remanded on bail to appear there again on 2 December.
