Ronan Keogan, a 51-year-old Irish former GP from Terenure, Dublin, pleaded guilty in November 2022 to one count of distributing child pornography and one count of possessing three child pornography images. The offending came to light in March 2017 when a woman he was meeting for sex reported to gardaí that he had sent her a sexually explicit image of a child. Gardaí subsequently searched his medical centre and home, finding 10,000 images across 383 folders, three of which depicted children. In May 2023, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court imposed a fully suspended one-year prison sentence, and in February 2024 the High Court confirmed the Medical Council's cancellation of his registration.
