Rodger Hunt, a 49-year-old man, called gardai to his home in Heynestown, Louth, at 3.20am on 8 September 2020 because his partner was lying on the sofa and would not go to bed. The garda said it was not a matter for An Garda Síochána, but as the garda left, Hunt followed him to the patrol car, where the garda said he was intoxicated and talking extremely loudly in a residential area. The garda directed Hunt to leave and warned he would be arrested if he failed to do so. Hunt was prosecuted for being intoxicated in a public place and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.
