On a Saturday night, Roberto Gomes dos Santos jnr (33), a Brazilian man, was assaulted by a man on Childers Road, Limerick, after the man asked him and his brother where they were from. The victim says the attacker hit him above the left eye after he said he was from Brazil, leaving him with six stitches, and he was taken to University Hospital Limerick and discharged a few hours later. The victim believes the attack was racist. Gardaí are investigating, and no arrests had been made at the time of reporting on 17 April 2024.
