On 27 July 2025, 93 packages of herbal cannabis weighing 107kg with an estimated street value of €2.1 million were seized at the Port of Cork, Ringaskiddy, in a joint Garda and Revenue operation. The cannabis was found in a trailer that had originated in Croatia and disembarked a vessel arriving from Zeebrugge, Belgium, with the discovery made with the assistance of detector dog Rua. Robert Slivar, a 59-year-old Croatian man of no fixed abode formerly from Ivanic, Croatia, was arrested and charged with possession and possession for sale or supply of cannabis under sections 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977. He appeared before a special sitting of Cork District Court on 2 August 2025, where Judge John King refused bail citing the seriousness of the charges, the strength of the evidence, and that Slivar was a flight risk. He was remanded in custody to appear by video link on 20 August 2025 for DPP directions.
