On 4 December 2020, gardaí were called to St. Nicholas' Avenue, Dundalk, after reports that a man had assaulted a man and a woman. Robert Keelan, a 44-year-old man, was arrested after initially resisting gardaí; the court heard he had demanded the male victim hand over his car key, leading to a tussle in which the man was held for up to two minutes, and the woman was pushed. Keelan's case was adjourned at Dundalk District Court in February 2022 for the preparation of a Probation report, with Judge Eirinn McKiernan warning him she was not guaranteeing anything. The case was put back to 6 April.
