Arlene Arkinson, a 15-year-old woman from Castlederg, Co Tyrone, disappeared on 13 August 1994 after a disco in Bundoran, Co Donegal. She was last seen in a car driven by Robert Howard, a convicted child killer and rapist who was on bail for violent sexual offences at the time. Howard was charged with her murder in 2002 but acquitted in 2005, and he died in prison in England in 2015 aged 71. A 2021 inquest in Omagh found on the balance of probability that Howard was responsible for her death, with the mechanism of death unknown. Her body has never been found despite extensive searches, including a fresh search in Ballybobaneen Forest, Glenfin, Co Donegal in September 2024.
