Robert Browne, 53, a man from Killoe, Longford, pleaded guilty to making returns false in a material particular under section 876 of the Companies Act 2014. He illegally used his former employer's Audit Registration Number to hide late tax filings for five clients between July 2016 and August 2019. The matters came to light when his former employer noticed their ARN had been used for accounts they knew nothing about. At Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 20 December 2022, Judge Pauline Codd imposed a two-year sentence suspended in full, conditional on Browne paying recompense within six months to the two remaining clients.
