Ricki Donoghue, 28, a man from Mullingar, Co Westmeath, pleaded guilty to two shoplifting offences at Aldi and Lidl in Longford town in March and June 2022. He was spotted placing two bottles of gin into a carrier bag at Lidl shortly before 10pm on 18 June 2022, and stole alcohol at Aldi just after 8:30pm in March. Both thefts violated a six-month suspended prison sentence, and he had 118 previous convictions, 35 for theft. At Longford District Court in September 2022, Judge Bernadette Owens sentenced him to three months on each charge, running concurrently.
