Richard Whitty, a 46-year-old man from Dundalk, Louth, was arrested following a drugs search at his home in Áth Leathan, where cocaine with an estimated street value of €4,130, two bags of cannabis, weighing scales, €4,500 in cash, and plastic bags were recovered. He was charged with possession of cocaine for sale or supply and the case was heard at Dundalk Circuit Court. Judge Dara Hayes sentenced him to two years, half of which was suspended for 12 months, with conditions including a bond of good behaviour and engagement with the Probation Service, Turas, and a training and employment office. Whitty told the court the cash had been borrowed for a car and the plastic bags were for personal drug use.
