Richard Treacy (36 in most reports), of Downey Street, Garryowen, Limerick, was arrested on a Special Criminal Court warrant and charged with money laundering over renovation work on his home. The alleged offending ran from 1 January 2014 to 12 January 2021, and gardaí had searched the house on 17 June 2020 and found cash. He first appeared before the Special Criminal Court on 21 April 2023, and his guilty plea was reported on 15 May 2025 by some outlets and on 21 July 2025 by others. On 20 October 2025 he was sentenced to two years and eight months' imprisonment, and the seized cash was ordered forfeited to the State.
