    Richard Quirke, a 75-year-old former garda, owns Dublin Pool and Juke Box Ltd, which operates Dr Quirkey's Good Time Emporium on O'Connell Street, Dublin. The company's directors discovered in December 2020 that fraudulent bank payments had led to alleged misappropriation of funds totalling €1.017 million in 2019 and €1.009 million in 2018. It is not known how the fraud was committed, and the missing amounts have been written off. Gardaí are investigating the alleged €2 million fraud, as first reported in June 2022. No suspect has been named or charged.
