latest first- Sentence appeal reserved for man convicted of double rape in Clare Rape · Co. Clare
Richard O'Mara, 33, was convicted of twice raping a 17-year-old schoolgirl at his sister's 18th birthday party on 18 October 2015 at Ballymulcashel, Kilmurry, Sixmilebridge, County Clare. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape and was found guilty by a Central Criminal Court jury in April 2019, then sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment with the final two years suspended. The Court of Appeal dismissed his conviction appeal in September 2021. In January 2022 the court reserved its judgment on his sentence appeal, in which the defence argued the term was too severe and the State argued there was no error in sentencing.
