Richard O'Brien, 61, a man from Dublin, was sentenced to life in prison at the Central Criminal Court in May 2023 after a jury unanimously convicted him of 63 counts of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault. He was found to have sexually abused and raped his two sisters, a niece and his two daughters at the family home on O'Moore Road, Ballyfermot, between 1975 and 2011. One of his daughters told her foster mother about the abuse, which alerted gardaí. Judge Mary Ellen Ring imposed a life sentence for the rape offences against his two daughters and concurrent sentences totalling 11 years for the other counts, running from when O'Brien went into custody in March.

Richard O' Brien, a 60-year-old man from Newcastle West, County Limerick, was found guilty of driving with no insurance on Main Street, Newbridge, on 11 March 2021. He was arrested and brought to the local garda station, where he was asked to provide a sample of breath, blood or urine to test for alcohol but failed to comply with gardaí's orders. His legal team told the court he was apologetic over the incident. Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed a mandatory four-year driving disqualification on 15 September 2022.
