    Richard Morrissey, a 45-year-old man from Dundalk, Co Louth, was sentenced on 29 July 2022 to 10½ years' imprisonment with the final year suspended, after being found guilty of seven counts of sexual assault and one count of oral rape. The abuse occurred at various locations in Louth between January 1996 and March 2003, when the victim was aged between seven and 14. The case came to light in 2016 when the woman went to gardaí, and the trial process took six years and involved two trials at the Central Criminal Court. Morrissey maintains his innocence and does not accept the jury verdicts.
