• Richard Kershaw jailed for four years and nine months over cocaine-fuelled arson in Ballyfermot Arson · Co. Dublin

  Richard Kershaw, a 37-year-old man from Ballyfermot, Dublin, set fire to several vehicles and caused further damage to others in the space of 20 minutes on 12 January 2025 while highly intoxicated on cocaine. He was found nearby about 40 minutes later, arrested, and later pleaded guilty to four counts of arson, with three further counts of criminal damage taken into consideration. Judge Martin Nolan at the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, sentenced him on 15 May 2026 to a headline term of eight years, reduced to six, with 15 months suspended on Probation Service conditions, resulting in four years and nine months in custody. Kershaw, who has 45 previous District Court convictions but no prior similar offences, has since attended residential treatment for his addiction.
