  • Inquest hears Dublin teenager murdered in care could have been saved Murder · Co. Dublin

Daniel McAnaspie, a 17-year-old orphan in the care of the HSE, was stabbed to death with garden shears at Tolka Valley Park, Blanchardstown, Dublin, on 26 February 2010. His badly decomposed body was found by a farmer in a drain in Rathfeigh, Co Meath, about two months later. Richard Dekker, a 35-year-old man from Blanchardstown, was convicted of murder by a unanimous jury at the Central Criminal Court in March 2017 after previously being acquitted in 2013, and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Trevor Noone, a 29-year-old man from Blanchardstown, was sentenced to 13 years for manslaughter in 2017. The Court of Appeal dismissed Dekker's appeal in July 2022 and the Supreme Court refused leave to appeal in May 2023, and an inquest in May 2025 heard that McAnaspie could have been saved with secure care.
