On October 27, 2022, gardaí searched four houses in Kilcormac, Co Offaly, under warrants obtained the day before. Garda Diarmuid Loughnane seized a suspected substance at the residence of Richard Davis in St Cormac's Park, and Davis was charged with allegedly possessing cocaine there. In October 2023, Judge Andrew Cody at Tullamore District Court ruled the search illegal because the garda named on the warrant was not accompanying Loughnane, and dismissed the charge. The DPP brought a case stated appeal, and in a judgment reported in February 2026 the High Court dismissed it, saying the acquittal stands, although it held that the District Court should have considered admissibility before dismissing the charge automatically.
