  On the evening of 2 July 2025, a two-vehicle collision between a car and a van occurred on the R240 at Carrowmore, Glentogher, Carndonagh, Co Donegal. Ella McLaughlin, aged 6, was pronounced dead at the scene, and her mother Natalie McLaughlin, aged 27, died the following day at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. Tyrone Irwin, in his 30s, and Rhea Irwin, 20 months, were also injured in the crash. A man in his late teens was arrested on 13 December 2025 and released without charge, with a file prepared for the DPP. Lochlainn Doherty, 18, of Doaghmore, Clonmany, was arrested on 23 June 2026 and charged with eight offences including two counts of dangerous driving causing death; he appeared at Buncrana District Court, made no reply, and was remanded on bail to Carndonagh District Court on 15 September 2026 for DPP directions.
