  Reece Dunne, 26, was stopped at a checkpoint in Cappakeel, Portlaoise, on the bank holiday Monday morning of 6 February 2023 and was arrested for drug driving. He tested positive for cocaine on a roadside swab, and a blood sample showed 789 nanograms per millilitre of cocaine and no alcohol, which the garda said was just shy of 16 times the limit. At Portlaoise District Court in May 2024, Dunne's barrister argued that the roadside detention was illegal. The judge said she wanted to consider the matters raised before ruling, and the case was adjourned to July 1.
