In the early hours of 12 September 2019, a male in-patient at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, was sexually assaulted by a healthcare assistant, Raymond Marmion, who was 54 when reported. The patient complained to gardaí, and Marmion was arrested by arrangement and admitted he was working that night. A jury found him guilty following a trial earlier in 2026, and on 1 May 2026 Judge Sinéad McMullan at Drogheda Circuit Court jailed him for two years and nine months without any part suspended. A report published on 7 May 2026 confirms the sentence, and Marmion did not accept the verdict and maintained his innocence.
