latest first- Former Cavan footballer sentenced for assault on journalist at Four Courts Assault
On 11 May 2018, Eddie Óg O'Reilly, a 43-year-old man and former Cavan footballer, was charged with assaulting veteran court reporter Ray Managh, a man, at the Four Courts in Dublin and stealing his notebook. O'Reilly remained on €5,000 bail with conditions including no contact with Managh while the case was delayed by missed trial dates from December 2021 onward. The DPP directed summary disposal at district court level, and a contested hearing was set for 2 March 2023. In March 2023, Judge John Hughes at Dublin District Court found O'Reilly guilty and gave him a nine-month jail sentence suspended for two years, a €3,000 compensation order, a €2,000 fine, and an anger management course under supervised probation.
