Randi Gladstone, a 42-year-old Guyanese man with 19 previous convictions, was convicted in January 2025 of rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment after luring an 18-year-old woman into his room in a holiday complex in Co Dublin on 25 August 2023, two weeks after arriving in Ireland. He was sentenced to ten years in prison by Mr Justice Patrick McGrath and jailed for a further six months in June 2025 for failing to notify gardaí he was a sex offender within seven days of arriving. Gladstone had previously been deported and barred from entering the UK. The Court of Appeal rejected his appeal on 19 March 2026, dismissing his claim that the trial was unfair after he was forced to withdraw his false claims of previous good character.
