    On April 19, 2024, a gang of four led by Quintan Ncube, 24, wielding a machete and wearing a devil mask, raided a student house in Athlone, Westmeath, mistakenly targeting it for drugs and cash. The other suspects were Oluwadamilare Adeniyi, 20, Michal Pawtowska, 23, and Katarzyna Pawtowska, 27, all non-Irish. Ncube and Adeniyi pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, Michal Pawtowska pleaded guilty to a lesser burglary charge, and Katarzyna Pawtowska admitted interfering with an investigation. In January 2026, all four were sentenced at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court, with Ncube receiving the harshest term of six years with six months suspended.
