Cases
latest first- Man spared conviction in Longford assault and public order case Assault; public order (threatening and abusive behaviour) · Co. Longford
On 7 August 2021 at around 7:30pm, an altercation broke out at Richmond Court, Richmond Street, Longford, a hostel for asylum seekers, after complaints that music was being played too loudly. Prince Kanu, a man formerly resident at the hostel, was charged with assault and threatening and abusive behaviour in public. At Longford court, Judge Éiteáin Cunningham applied Section 1(1) of the Probation Act to spare Kanu a criminal conviction, and the co-accused also received the benefit of the Probation Act. All statements made by both parties against each other were later withdrawn.
