latest first- Gardaí renew witness appeal in Longford attempted murder case Attempted murder · Co. Longford
On 17 July 2024, PJ Finnan, a 74-year-old man, was shot in the arm through the front window of his home in the Springlawn Estate, Longford town, when a man armed with a sawn-off shotgun fired two shots from a navy-blue BMW 3 series car. A second man filmed the shooting on a mobile phone while a third drove the car, which was later found burnt out at a farmyard outside Longford. Gardaí believe the attack is linked to an ongoing feud between two families, though the victim was not involved in the dispute. No arrests have been made, and Gardaí renewed their witness appeal in July 2025, almost a year after the incident.
