Piotr Grycuk, a 45-year-old Polish man, pleaded guilty to possessing 10,347 images and three videos of child sexual abuse material at his rented flat on Raglan Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin, on 23 July 2018. Gardaí, alerted by US law enforcement who provided an IP address, raided the flat shortly after 7am and found seven devices containing the material, 30 of which were in the most serious category. Grycuk, who said he had a pornography addiction and downloaded material from the dark web, had no previous convictions and attended over 200 psychotherapy sessions. On 10 July 2024, Judge Martin Nolan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court gave him a three-year sentence suspended in full with 18 months of probation supervision, ruling that imprisonment would be unjust given his insight, remorse, and low risk of reoffending.
