On 21 December 2024, Garda John Hanley attempted to carry out a Section 23 drug search at Annaly car park in Longford. Pierre Stokes, a man, allegedly ran when informed of the search and passed a package to his co-accused, Tom Stokes, who then ran from gardaí. Both men are charged with unlawfully obstructing the Garda. They appeared at Longford District Court on 7 March 2026, where Judge Bernadette Owens adjourned the case to 10 March 2026 after expressing criticism of avoidance tactics.

On 6 May 2025, a violent disorder incident occurred on New Street and Ballymahon Street, Longford town, during which weapons were produced and vehicles were damaged. Five men – Tom Stokes (19), Kevin Stokes (33), Dylan Stokes (27), Pierre Stokes (25), and Jonathan Wykes (47), all of Lisnanagh, Edgeworthstown – were arrested on 13 May 2025 by Gardaí assisted by the Armed Response Unit and charged with violent disorder. They appeared at Longford District Court on 16 May, were released on bail with strict conditions, and the case was adjourned. In January 2026, the DPP gave permission for the defendants to be sent forward to Longford Circuit Criminal Court, where they are remanded on bail to stand trial on 3 February.
