  On 13 December 2024 criminal damage was allegedly caused to two houses and a car in Portarlington, Laois. Pierce Mitchell, a man aged 33 from Bracklone Street, Portarlington, is charged with damaging a car bumper on Main Street and is accused of damaging windows and a front door at St Joseph's Terrace and the front door of a house at Cathair Na gCapall. His solicitor said he appeared before a special sitting of the courts on a Saturday, and the case was reported on 27 December 2024. The judge remanded him in custody with consent to bail, and he is due to reappear before Portlaoise District Court on 2 January for DPP directions.
