  Philip Ogbewe, a 59-year-old man who called himself 'Dr Philip', circumcised six infants and one five-year-old boy in their homes in Dublin, Kildare and Wexford between January 2018 and October 2019, charging €300 to €350 in most cases. He was arrested in November 2018 over a 2015 circumcision of another child, who was hospitalised, and was on bail when the offences took place. In 2020 he was jailed for three years over the 2015 case, backdated to November 2019, and released in October 2021. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of endangerment and seven counts of assault causing harm, and on 10 July 2024 Judge Elma Sheahan at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court imposed a global sentence of seven and a half years with the final 12 months suspended, so he is jailed for six and a half years. The latest development is that the judge extended his legal aid in case he appeals the sentence.
